Office of the Chief Economic Adviser

The Office of the Chief Economic Adviser is a multi-disciplinary team of economists, statisticians and administrative staff. It is responsible for supporting Ministers in delivering the Partnership Agreement's top priority of Growing the Economy by providing evidence and analysis on the performance of the Scottish economy. Areas of work include:

  • taking forward the implementation of the Framework for Economic Development in Scotland
  • the provision of advice to Ministers on macroeconomic issues, including the effect on Scotland of global, EU and UK wide economic events and policies
  • advice on the economic impact of major strands of UK reserved functions, including those relating to social and welfare policy through the benefit/tax system
  • the preparation of the annual Government Expenditure and Revenue in Scotland (GERS) Report, the annual Scottish Economic Statistics (SES), quarterly GDP figures and the twice-yearly Scottish Economic Report (SER)
