Finance and Central Services Department

The Analytical Services Division supports the work of policy teams in Finance and Central Services Department. It has six branches covering Finance, Local Government, Efficient Government, and International issues. The Division compromises economists working alongside researchers, statisticians and statistical support.

The responsibilities are wide ranging. Amongst these the Division:

  • ensures that best practice, as set out in the Green Book and Pre-Expenditure Assessment guidance, is maintained in the appraisal of policies and programmes across the Scottish Executive and its' agencies
  • provides analytical support to the International, and Efficient Government, programmes
  • gives analytical advice and analysis on Local Government issues, acting also as a primary source of income and expenditure information at the local authority level
  • undertakes the Grant Aided Expenditure allocation analysis between Scotland's 32 local authorities.
