Education Department
The Information and Analytical Services Division, based in the Scottish Executive Education Department progresses the Executive's aims by
- developing and providing high quality information and analysis and;
- promoting the better use of high quality evidence in the development of policy and practice.
Economists within the Division work in one of three multi-disciplinary Analytical Service Units. Alongside social researchers and statisticians, 7 economist staff work across the Analytical Services Units. Each Analytical Services Unit serves one of the three policy groups:
- Schools Group;
- Children & Young People's Group; and
- Tourism Culture & Sport Group.
Across these policy groups economists are responsible for:
- providing economic advice and analysis on a wide range of issues relating to education (school and pre-school), children's services, youth crime and tourism, culture and sport
- commissioning economic research projects
- monitoring progress towards Education Department and Scottish Executive objectives
- co-ordinating the department's contribution to strategic business planning, the budget process and the spending review and
- promoting a multi-disciplinary approach to evidence-based policy making in ED
