John Ewing

TransportTransport Directorate is headed by John Ewing and works closely with Transport Scotland to deliver Scottish Ministers' priorities for transport. The Directorate is responsible for the development of the National Transport Strategy, transport legislation, and policy development on issues such as road user charging, sustainable transport and accessibility; local roads, bus, ferries, ports, aviation, cycling, walking, road safety and rural transport; as well as relations with the freight industry, British Waterways, the Department for Transport and the newly-created Regional Transport Partnerships.

Transport Directorate is structured into five divisions including:

  • Transport Strategy and Legislation
  • Bus, Freight and Roads
  • Aviation, Ports and International
  • Ferries
  • Business Support Unit
