Directorate for Lifelong Learning is headed by Mark Batho. Lifelong Learning Directorate is responsible for Scottish Government policy on all aspects of learning that take place after people leave school - from basic employability training through to post-doctoral research. Working for the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning, the Directorate takes a close interest in the interface between the world of learning (training, skills enhancement, academic) and that of work/enterprise/economic growth.

The Directorate is structured into five divisions including:

  • Higher Education & Learner Support
  • Enterprise & Employability for Young People
  • Employability & Skills
  • Further and Adult Education
  • Learning Connections
