Director Criminal Justice
Valerie MacNiven
Directorate for Criminal Justice is headed by Valerie MacNiven and its responsibilities include a range of areas:
- Policy on community sentences and community supervision of adult offenders, including drug misusing offenders, women and young offenders
- Planning, funding and the framework for delivering local authority criminal justice social work services
- Electronic monitoring services
- Managing risk posed by sex offenders in the community
- Policy and operation of the pilot drug and youth courts
- Promoting Effective Practice Agenda for criminal justice social work
It is structured into five divisions including:
- Criminal Procedure
- Criminal Law and Licensing
- Parole & Life Setence Review
- Community Justice Services
- Victims and Witnesses
