Pam Whittle

Directorate for Public Health and Health Improvement is headed by Pam Whittle and aims to improve the overall health of the nation whilst addressing the health inequalities that are evident across Scotland. Working across the Scottish Government, HISD covers a variety of topics that affect people's health including healthy weight, physical activity, diet, health in the workplace and screening.

The division is also responsible for addressing Scotland's health inequalities, between the best and worst off communities. Responsible for the Keep well and Well North programmes, HISD are addressing the health needs of the most deprived and hardest to reach groups. The division is also responsible for taking forward the recommendations of the Ministerial Task Force on Health Inequalities contained in the Task Force's recent report, Equally Well.

The Directorate is structured into two divisions including:

  • Public Health and Substance Misuse Division
  • Health Improvement Strategy Division
