I have difficulty finding Scottish bacon in the big name supermarkets.
I have requested it to be stocked in Asda, Tesco, Morrisons but only in Morrisons is there a regular supply.
I can always find bacon from Denmark and Holland but I want to support the Scottish pig farmers.

Yes, that's what customers want - local healthy produce. Then why not allow managers like Billy Johnston the discretion to stock local products with say 20p in each pound paid to Asda for the shelf space while obviously using Asda's 'quality' screening so you don't get sold sub-standard items. Answer: Asda's "low" prices attract lower-income families who buy fatty, sugary foods where the money paid to the farmer is not 80% but often under 10% of the retail price! So quality goods are squeezed out in favour of cheap junk so Asda can take their disproportionate share.

This ain't no rant. If Lewis has never seen a fit and healthy veggie he should look harder. Lennox Lewis for a start. I've been veggie for over 30 years and I still cycle 50 miles on a Sunday and play tennis or squash twice a week. Veggies are healthier and wiser (wealthier?!) than meat eaters.

Never mind this rant about vegies.

Keep producing and selling all sorts of foods in Scotland and let the public chose what they like.

Billy makes good points about keeping food production local - and we should all support local farmers where we can. But it makes no sense to support animal produce when you consider the daft amount of money required to subsidise meat production. If supermarkets really have the welfare of their customers at heart, they should be enouraging us to move away from meat towards a healtier, more vegetarian diet.

That clearly makes sense and is worthy of praise, not least because of the customer getting listened to. Additionally, it should make products more affordable and fresher.
